Elsie Wilcox was hybridized on the island of Kauaʻi by Mrs. Grace Rice in the very early 1900s.  She is said to be a cross between Rice White (today known as H. waimeae) and H. saintjohnianus.  This 2-3" hibiscus is a soft orange, and her leaves are a variety of greens and rust colors - really lovely and most unusual.  She is indeed a piece of Hawaiʻiʻs history.
