Hibiscus schizopetalus is an amazing flower, introduced to Hawaiʻi before 1909 possibly from Tanzania. This 4" lacy blossom is an African species always pendant and always with a distinct very long stamen. It can grow as a short full bush or a tall elegant bush. It was used by early Hawaiʻi hybriizers as a pollen parent and it has been suggested that itʻs genes contribute to ruffling and tufting in tropical hybrid hibiscus.
