Hibiscus in the Winter
Aloha !
Believe it or not, when the evening temperatures drop down to the low 60s or high 50s in our Hawaiʻi winter, it feels absolutely freezing! Our hibiscus react to the cooler temps by slowing way down on their blooming. For our Hawaiʻi customers, itʻs a great time to give it some special Hibiscus Lady fertilizer to help the plants remember to bloom.
Tropical hibiscus will die if exposed to freezing temperatures for more than a few minutes. For our mainland U.S. customers, we recommend going to: www.trop-hibiscus.com On the left hand side, click on " Growing tropical hibiscus "up north," Sweden, etc." for some great suggestions. (Thank you American Hibiscus Society!)
Because it is now really cold on the mainland U.S., we will not be shipping our plants until it warms up in the spring. Our only exception is that we will continue to ship to Hawaiʻiʻs outer islands and to Southern California all year long.
Would you like us to notify you when our online store is open (with all new, gorgeous hibiscus) in the spring? Just send us an e-mail to: hibiscuslady@me.com Put "mailing list" in the subject line, give us your name and e-mail address, and weʻll let you know!!!
In the meantime, we wish you all a very Mele Kalikimaka and a Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou! In other words, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
